Feed Your Soul

Ayurveda & Yoga Retreat

SPRING
2019

April 5,6,7, 2019

Thank you very much Purnima and Carole for hosting such a beautiful few days. It was absolutely perfect.
The experience I had at Feed Your Soul yoga and ayurvedic retreat was exactly what I need at exactly the right time. Purnima and Carole provided guidance and wisdom through the art of yoga, meditation and ayurvedic teachings. It was the perfect marriage between structure and flow based on what the guests expected and what they needed to feed their soul full of love, rest and relaxation. I walked in knowing I needed to reconnect with my energies and re-balance my life. I walked out feeling connected and recharged and with a tool kit, that I am able to reach into during my daily life, to bring back balance in our chaotic world and reconnect with the life energies. You two are incredible souls, thanks for sharing your experiences and helping others continue through their journey, wherever it may be going. Much love to you both.

About Spring

Now it’s time to be in awe—to create harmony with spring through acts of mindfulness and devotion. All we have to do is look around to be inspired at this time of year; renewal and transformation are literally welling up from the ground. The natural world is going through a rebirth.

Spring is kapha season. Kapha is a combination of liquid and earthy Soma (Lunar energy). Kapha is heavy, dense, static, cold, cloudy, oily, soft and gross. It provides lubrication for joints as well as mucus to protect the sensitive tissues of the sinuses, lungs and stomach. When Kapha is balanced, you feel strong and stable. When it is imbalanced, you feel sleepy and mentally dull or depressed. It may cause excess phlegm in the sinuses or lungs, water retention, weight gain or heaviness in the limbs. To balance Kapha, our diet and lifestyle should have the opposing qualities of Kapha, which are light, mobile, hot, clear, hard, rough, dry and subtle. Sweet, sour and salty tastes aggravate Kapha, so they should be limited. Pungent, bitter and astringent tastes balance Kapha and should be favored.
Yoga practices like bhastrika and sun salutations should be practiced.

About the Retreat

Yoga

Spring is a season that requires us to wake up the sleeping bear that has been hibernating.  Time to ignite the fires within.  We will learn movement through the Fire Namaskar to help us breath new life into our bodies.

To produce agni in your practice, you must generate tapas, or inner heat. You build this heat by doing strong standing poses, all kinds of Sun salutations, and backbends, which pump prana throughout your body. The prana acts like a bellows and gradually builds the heat of tapas. You support and sustain tapas mentally by concentrating on your breath.

The yoga that is taught is for all levels.  We approach the teachings by introducing kramas (levels) that allow you to go into a pose that is right for you.

Self Care

You will learn Ayurvedic Dinacharya, meaning daily routine that promotes doshic balance and helps establish health. Spring is a time to move stagnant energies in the body.  You will learn how to apply the Gharshana treatment; a technique used to move stagnant lymph energy.

Meditation

We will head outdoors to a place of beauty and observe a period of silence. Slow down to examine the buds and shoots poking out in your surroundings.  Through mantras we will chant and elevate our vibrations to match those of the new creations of earth.  A time to appreciate the beautiful transformation that’s happening around you and fill you with inspiration, energy, and light.

Cooking

Ayurveda cooking will be based on tri-dosha meal preparation.  You will learn some traditional Indian cuisine along with learning how to take a "Western" menu and turning it into an Ayurvedic tri-dosha dish.

We will also explore the benefits of doing a gentle cleanse to give our digestive system a re-boot.
